The 4th generation X-ray Computerized Tomography (CT) is available
at Lemigas Core Laboratory. The produced X-ray CT image so called
linear attenuation coefficient is actually a function of bulk
density and atomic number. It is now become a routine procedure
at Lemigas for both scanning conventional cores immediately
after receiving them at the laboratory and screening core plugs
for special core-analysis. By doing so, core characteristics
such as lithofacies/heterogeneity, fractures, bedding plane,
vugular pores and invaded drilling-mud could be recognized even
without removing cores out of core barrels (or the wrappings
for preserved cores), therefore, a quality assurance of core
samples is established for further core analysis/studies. Furthermore,
several petrophysical and reservoir engineering applications
have been widely applied. These include measurement of density
and porosity; rock mechanics studies; core to well logs correlation,
quantification of heavy minerals and coreflooding tests. |
